Myth

Spaying or neutering will automatically make my dog overweight.

Fact

Gonadal hormones do influence metabolism, so a modest reduction in resting energy expenditure can occur after surgery. However, peer-reviewed studies consistently show that dogs become overweight because they consume more calories than they burn — not because surgery alone causes fat accumulation. Myth

Any surgical procedure under general anesthesia carries some inherent risk, and acknowledging that is honest. However, in healthy animals, the complication rate for routine spay and neuter surgery is well-documented as very low.
